How are email, Facebook and Twitter used internationally? Are all countries across Europe united or do the users behave differently across the countries? In what countries do fan pages work best for businesses? The results from Part Two of eCircle's Social Media and Email Marketing Study will provide the answers to these questions as well as an international analysis on how consumers are engaging with brands through online channels across Europe.

eCircle's "European Social Media and Email Marketing" study series was conducted in cooperation with Mediacom Science and reveals new insights into how consumers engage with brands via email and social media networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, and offers marketers the opportunity to see how they can effectively optimise these channels.

Here are a few select findings from Part Two of the study to utilise in your social media strategy:

-    In all countries at least 50% of respondents use social networks as well as email. The combination of these two channels coverers virtually the entire Internet user base.
-    Facebook dominates in five out of the six countries reviewed, with an average of 88% of respondents using the network. In the Netherlands Facebook is significantly less popular, with the majority of consumers instead using local network Hyves (80%).
-    In the UK, Italy and Spain more than a quarter of social media users are a fan or follower of a company’s page or profile.
-    Germany, France and the Netherlands are “email countries”, where over a third of users can only be reached via email or newsletters, whereas the UK, Italy and Spain represent the “multi-channel” countries, where the usage of both email and social media channels dominate.

The "European Social Media and Email Marketing" three part study series analyses responses from consumers and key decision-makers across Europe's six largest online markets: Germany, Britain, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.
